What is Local Links?

It’s me, hi – I’m Local Links, it’s me.

Hello!

My name is Astro and I have been working as a social worker within Clark, Cowlitz, and Skamania counties for over a decade now!! My career has allowed me to observe people in their home environments and in the community and I have seen some trends amongst ALL demographics – isolation. It doesn’t matter if someone is rich or poor, young or old, educated or not – people across every background share this feeling of being alone. I’ve felt it too and I got tired of waiting for someone else to fix it. The truth is, many people want help or connection, but they don’t know where to turn or feel ashamed to ask – and the systems and institutions that are supposed to support us often leave big gaps.

I started Local Links as a call to action. This is not some big, polished non-profit.  I believe neighbors can support each other in real ways, while also finding new ways to connect with schools, city programs, and local organizations. Local Links is about building those bridges – between people and each other, and between our communities and the bigger institutions that shape our lives. It’s just me and anyone who wants to join in and make community possible again.

This is my small step towards that dream. It’s messy, it’s human, and having the courage to try. But it’s real, the most real a lot of us (me included) have seen in a long time. Whether it’s sharing tools, joining a pod, or throwing a block party, I truly believe that we can build something bigger than ourselves. A community where people feel seen, supported, and connected. My hope is that Local Links helps people feel less alone, more supported, and more empowered to work side-by-side with each other and with the systems that are supposed to serve us.

Thank you so, so much for being here!!!

Sincerely,

Astro

Equity & Inclusion

Local Links is for everyone; however, it also recognizes that not everyone starts from the same place. BIPOC communities often carry the weight of extra barriers – fewer resources, less representation, and systems that were not built with them in mind. Part of my commitment in creating Local Links is to ensure that these voices are not only included but uplifted.

This means building programs where leadership reflects to community, creating space for conversations that matter, and making sure that those who are usually left out get the chance to shape what Local Links becomes. Community isn’t just about connection – it’s also about justice and making sure that everyone has a seat at the table.

What We Do

Our Mission
Local Links is about helping communities build what they want to see and need.

Instead of waiting for new programs or outside resources, which are becoming fewer and fewer, we believe in creating circles of support right here. Together, we can strengthen our connections, share what we have, and bring back a sense of belonging that lasts.

Our Vision
This is an initiative started by one social worker with a vision: to see communities come alive again.

A vision where youth are playing outside, where neighbors know and support one another, and where those who feel isolated can find connection without the barriers that so often get in the way.
